Instance settings
What the instance calls itself, who can join, what language it defaults to, and the public page.
Settings → General, for admins. Four things live here.
Name
What the instance calls itself — Brunnen Street, not nooks. It appears in the sidebar, on printed sheets and on a public page, so a household name reads better than a product name.
Signup
Off by default. With it off there is no way in from outside: accounts are created by an admin, and a temporary password is handed over in person.
Turn it on and somebody can ask for an account, which waits for an admin to approve. It is worth leaving open only while the people who need accounts are creating them.
Default language
The language of anything nobody chose a language for: the public page, a printed sheet, and a member who has not picked one. Members choose their own, and theirs wins.
The public page
One list, published read-only at a stable link. Alongside it:

Names are off by default because a public page is about what needs buying rather than about who lives at the address.
Unpublish and the link stops working. A visitor never sees any other list and cannot discover that another one exists.
Deleting the instance
At the foot of settings, and it does what it says: every list, item, member and token. Back it up first — see Back up.
